Angelo is an enthusiastic young student who strives to make a positive impact on the world. Alongside his internship at Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine in Pozzuoli (Tigem), he devotes his free time to volunteering for the Italian Red Cross and Fondazione Telethon. His ultimate goal is to merge his passion for research and science with his desire to give back to the community. As one of our 2021 scholarship recipients, Angelo is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology at Vanvitelli University. Read on to discover more about him.

In today’s world, molecular biotechnology plays a crucial role in the development of a huge number of things across a wide range of fields. This includes the development of cutting-edge drugs and therapies, rather than sustainable bio-fuels to reduce pollution, or even genetically modified organisms to improve agricultural productivity. These are just a few examples: the list of the possible applications of molecular biotechnology is much longer!

I love that my degree program offers excellent study resources. Along with textbooks and scientific articles, we also have the privilege of studying our professors’ research notes, which makes the learning experience all the more stimulating.

The Dompé Foundation scholarship means I have been recognized for my huge dedication to studying. Receiving this tremendous support has increased not only my motivation and self-esteem, but also my sense of responsibility as now I feel even more the duty to excel as a student.

What I like the most about my traineeship at TIGEM is the opportunity to work closely with the researchers mentoring me. In addition to teaching me valuable lab techniques, they offer guidance on my career aspirations and provide much-needed support in achieving my goals.

My dream job is to become a dedicated researcher and university professor, driven by the excitement of discovering new cellular mechanisms that could revolutionize molecular therapy.

The three adjectives people most often use to describe me are: self-controlled, honest, and bold. I am not lying: I’ve actually asked around!

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is that I should take ownership of my own happiness. I shouldn’t expect others to fulfill my emotional needs, as that responsibility ultimately falls on me.

The hobby which I would never give up is volunteering for the Italian Red Cross and Fondazione Telethon. Spending my free time giving back to the community, fills my heart with joy and makes me hope for a brighter future.
